Abstract:
Mice viewed through the catwalk on Gough island. The mice are thought to have arrived on the island with 19th century sailors. Where an ordinary house mouse eats insects and seeds, these mice have grown to two or even three times normal size and eat bird chicks. Birds on the island had been used to having no predators and are unable to fend off the mice which attack in groups at night. These attacks cause great devastation amongst the bird population.
