Pan-Handlin' Pete Bartlett,Marion 42 stirring a pot of Tullish type brew, Trypot Beach, around mid-summer 1985. Note by John Cooper: This is the trypot removed (date unknown) without permission by Captain Bill Leith of the S.A. Agulhas to Cape Town, where I saw it crated upside-down in the old Leeuwen Street store in the early 1980s. It was returned to Trypot Beach in April 1984. It can be recognized by the chip in its lip, which, however, is not visible in a photo of it taken by Allan Crawford in 1948 which I published in the booklet Historical Sites at the Prince Edward Islands in 1986. The Cape Town journey might have caused the damage. It is also no longer in its 1948 position on the beach. Allan's 1982 book Tristan da Cunha and the Roaring Forties has an interesting illustrated chapter on his Marion sojourn as first team leader (M1): well worth a read.
