The mean annual surface temperature for the region, determined by measurement of temperatures at depths of 10m in boreholes at eight localities on the Fimbulisen, was found to be approximately -16°C at the coast, decreasing inland at a rate of -0, 13°C I km for at least 30 km from the sea.
