Annex III to the Protocol on Environmental Protection to the Antarctic Treaty (Madrid Protocol, 1991): Waste Disposal and Waste Management

Abstract

This document forms part of the framework established under the Protocol on Environmental Protection to the Antarctic Treaty (Madrid Protocol, 1991), which designates Antarctica as a natural reserve devoted to peace and science. There are a total of six annexes to the Protocol; this is Annex III. It sets out guidelines for minimizing waste and establishes procedures for its disposal, removal from Antarctica, and record-keeping.
