Convention for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR)

Abstract

This convention forms part of the Antarctic Treaty System and was established to conserve Antarctic marine ecosystems, with a particular focus on sustainable fishing practices and the protection of dependent and related species. The convention is legally binding in South Africa under the Antarctic Treaties Act No. 60 of 1996 and governs marine living resource use in areas where the South African National Antarctic Programme (SANAP) operates.
