Creating Awareness: the Role of the Antarctic Legacy of South Africa (ALSA)

Abstract

This Information Paper, submitted by South Africa to the 40th Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting (ATCM), presents the objectives and accomplishments of the Antarctic Legacy of South Africa (ALSA) project. It aims to inform other Treaty Parties about ALSA’s progress in preserving South Africa’s Antarctic and sub-Antarctic heritage through a publicly accessible digital archive, educational outreach, publications, and public engagement. The paper underscores the project's significance in raising awareness and fostering national pride in South Africa’s contributions to Antarctic exploration and research.
