Abstract:
This map depicts Prince Edward Island and Marion Island. It includes soundings (depth measurements of the ocean) and survey stations recorded during the HMS Challenger expedition. Geographic features shown on the map include prominent capes - N.E. Cape, S.E. Cape, East Cape, Cape Crozier, Cape Hooker, and Cape Davis, as well as notable landmarks like High Bluff, Boot Rock, and Ross Rock. Numerical depth markings such as "90", "130", and "50" (likely in fathoms) illustrate the underwater topography surrounding the islands. Additional annotations reference the seabed composition, including “volcanic sand” in specific areas. The map originates from the ''Report of the Scientific Results of the Exploring Voyage of HMS Challenger during the years 1873–76''.
