dc.description.abstract This document is a draft proposal for a research project called UAMPY (Upper Atmosphere Monitoring for Polar Year 2007–2008). Developed by a team of scientists from several countries, the project was intended for inclusion in the International Polar Year (IPY). Its main goal is to study the upper atmosphere in the polar regions (near the North and South Poles) using a coordinated network of scientific instruments. The research focuses on understanding how this part of the atmosphere is affected by solar activity, with the aim of improving communications, satellite navigation, and space weather forecasting in these sensitive areas. en_ZA
