dc.description Stoker collection of slides scanned by theAntarctic Legacy of South Africa and metadata added by previous clleagues of Prof Stoker. Definite dates and and names may not be correct and it was not always possible to add the necessary metdata The neutron monitor station with which cosmic radiation is observed at the HMO in Hermanus is the oldest continuously registering station in the world. This would certainly not have been possible without the contribution of Prof Pieter Stoker. It has been in operation since 1957. Although there are older stations, the others are intermittent at times. He started the station at SANAE base. Also read articles by Prof Stoker in the South African Journal on Antarctic Research that is availble on the legacy archive. en_ZA
