dc.description.abstract With continued development and increasing capacity, GEOTRACES program within South Africa is now well established. This presentation will provide an overview of the infrastructure development, cutting edge analytical capabilities which puts South Africa among the best in the world and results from past few cruises to highlight the contribution of this program for a better understanding of the workings of the Southern Ocean. Given the high level skills required to conduct GEOTRACES related work, a lack of focused chemical oceanography curriculum in major marine related programs at South African universities needs a concerted discussion that would allow the growth of this program and participation/capacity development beyond the Western Cape. - Abstract as displayed in the - Abstract booklet.
