The Mammal Research Institute (MRI) formally commenced seal research in the Antarctic region (sensu latu) in 1973 and focussed on the southern elephant seal, Mirounga leonina, and Subantarctic fur seal, Arctocephalus tropicalis, at Marion Island. |
