dc.description.abstract At the end of 1960 the Department of Physics of Rhodes University was invited to participate in a scientific research programme which was envisaged for the third South African National Antarctic Expedition, with its base at Sanae, 70°18 'S, 2°21 'W. The Department proposed an ionosphere research programme which was approved by the authorities. See this article for some results. en_ZA
