dc.description.abstract |
Plaque with recorded landings of the naval ship, HMSAS Natal on Marion Island. HMSAS Natal was sent down to Marion Island in 1947 to annex the island, and this plaque commemorates the event. The ship also held the distinction of sinking a German U-boat during WWII within four hours of leaving the builders' yard at Newcastle-on-Tyne. |
