This article discusses the official handover of the SA Agulhas II, South Africa’s newest and most advanced research and supply vessel, to the Department of Environmental Affairs. The commissioning ceremony took place on 4 April 2012 at the STX shipyard in Rauma, Finland, following the successful completion of the ship’s ice and sea trials. The SA Agulhas II represents a significant investment in the country's polar research and environmental monitoring capabilities. |
