dc.description |
Some of the balloon tracking equipment. The device which dangles below the balloon sends off every minute a whole series of signals which are converted to temp., humidity, pressure and a whole lot of other weather readings. By following the balloon the direction and speed of the upper atmosphere winds can be worked out. The balloon goes to about 50 - 60 ft. before bursting. Nothing is recovered when it falls. Each launching costs about R40, 00 and is done at 12.00 twice a day. |
