dc.description.abstract |
When a glacier or thick sheets of ice flow down to a coastline and onto the ocean surface,it forms a natural shelf of ice. The ship is usually moored next to the ice shelf, as it eases unloading of cargo onto the ice. The cargo is then transported from the shelf inland towards the base. |
