dc.description.abstract |
During the early years of Antarctic exploration, dogs were used to assist with transportation across the ice by pulling sleds. These dogs were left at Norway Station by the Norwegians for the South Africans to use, when South Africa took over the base in 1960. Although the dogs slept outside, they were sometimes brought into the base. |
